2011 Event: December 3, 10 am – 2 pm, Shenkman Arts Centre Orleans

This event started with a few Twitter DMs about business.  Then about shopping.  Then about fundraising.  And cupcakes.

A few emails later, Shopping & Sweets was born.

We both have a love for great shopping finds – especially when they can buy local and support women in business.   We wanted a spin on the traditional trade show.  Yes, we wanted the opportunity for shoppers to find great buys (especially right before Christmas!) and for retailers to sell their product or promote their  service.  We wanted online friends to come together and network in a casual environment.

We also loved the thought of having a sweet element to the event – just something different and fun and since most conversations tended to include something about chocolate or dessert, it was a natural fit.

When we thought about a shopping/retail event, the thought of sipping on a coffee with a treat in our hand and chatting with a good friend was extremely appealing.  We wanted to try it!

But most importantly, we saw the potential to do good in our community.  We figured if we joined forces, and worked with some great partners, retailers and friends, we could raise money and give back to the city we both love very much.  That is why all of the proceeds are going to charity.

And so, we bring you Shopping & Sweets.  Our take on the perfect way to Christmas shop – if we must leave the comfort of our laptops and pajamas!
